DiamonEx's vision is simply, to be a profitable diamond producer, of more than one million carats per annum.
While this may seem a simple and easy goal, very few diamond producers, less than ten, are in that position, and very few of the several hundred diamond explorers have the assets to achieve that in the next five to ten years. We have those assets, and if successful in achieving that vision, have no doubt that significant shareholder value will be created. We believe that exploration is a means to achieving production, and is not a means in itself. Many junior diamond companies have fallen into that trap, and are locked in a cycle of exploration. We are not; we are focussed on being an excellent producer.
DiamonEx's strategy is influenced heavily by the company's desire to minimise risk. We will not, for example:
| |
 |
Invest in countries where political risk may see our assets lost or severely depreciated in value ; |
| |
 |
Operate in countries where our workers health and safety is severely compromised; |
| |
 |
Mine in areas and locations where operating costs are likely to be very high; |
| |
 |
Mine in such a way that operating costs are likely to be very high. |
As a result of this, DiamonEx's strategy is, to:
| |
 |
Mine kimberlitic pipes, not alluvial deposits; |
| |
 |
Undertake grass roots exploration in areas where the strike rate for diamondiferous kimberlitic pipes is high, such as Botswana; |
| |
 |
Undertake less time and cost on exploration, and more on assessing grade and value of known kimberlites; |
| |
 |
Get kimberlites into production quickly; and |
| |
 |
Mine open cut with low operating costs, focussing as much on the margin as on grade and value. |
